Intro To Yin Yoga

Sat March 13th with Lindsey Britt
2pm-4pm

What is Yin Yoga?
Yin Yoga is suitable for all levels of students. Targeting the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, spine, hamstrings, and thighs. Poses are done on the floor
and are held for 3-5 minutes in order to stretch through the muscles and into the ligaments, bones and joints. This dynamic practice takes you deeper into your body and mind. Yoga Asana (poses) are meant to condition the body for long seated meditation. Anyone who has sat in meditation for a long period of time knows the importance of having a strong and open lower back and hip area. In Yin we focus on these areas of the body to increase the comfort level experienced in long held meditation practices as well as all areas of your yoga practice. Come join us for two hours of deep stretches and relaxation.

Moving into Wholeness
 with Laura Chiaramonte, MFA
Sunday March 14th
2-6pm

With the success of the last workshop
Laura Chiaramonte is returning to Urban Lotus with
"Moving into Wholeness: Expressions of the Inner Self ".
If you didn't get a chance to experience it the first time here's another chance.

"Moving into Wholeness: Expressions of the Inner Self"
The goal of the workshop is to help students achieve greater self-awareness and a positive sense of well-being. The idea is that through authentic movement, improvisation, trust exercises and group discussions, one can express oneself and come into contact with the conscious and unconscious parts of their personality. This contact leads to accepting one’s self for who they are. Moving Into Wholeness is based on the idea that the body and mind are interrelated.

Moving Into Wholeness provides individuals a means to develop a healthy relationship with their own body, enhances body image overall and provides a safe and structured environment for individuals to engage in creative expression, explore their emotions and enhance their mind-body connection.

With over 14 years of experience, Laura Chiaramonte combines dance and movement techniques with therapeutic elements to develop a unique form of body/mind exploration. This work promises to tap into old patterns held in the body and mind, creating new space for alternate physical, emotional, and mental ways of being.
Come experience a journey of self reflection and insight through authentic movement, improvisation and body work within the contexts of dance movement therapy, meditation, and
contemporary movement improvisation.
  • Authentic Movement
  • Insight and Self Reflection
  • Therapeutic touch
Explore spontaneous movement that arises from inner impulses in each present moment. Explore the role of “mover” and “witness” through different authentic movement exercises.
Laura will introduce the essential connection between art, movement, and life, which can facilitate healing and change.

“Tasmin Sati Shwasaprashwasayorgativicchedeh Pranayama”
~Patanjali Yoga Sutra (II, 49)
The Yoga is scientific – It is about control of mind. Its central part which is known as Pranayama or breath-control is today being recognized by psychologists and medics. The simple fact that breath can serve as a handle to our emotional state of being and also clarity of thought. It is a sure shot therapeutic-transformative therapy, which elevates normal humans to the domain of super-Humans. There is a tendency in many people to give exclusive or undue importance to the technical feature of Pranayama at the cost of its essential and subtle nature. In absence of the knowledge of, which is the essential and the relevant aspect of the technique, and which is the superfluous and optional aspect; the student misses the opportunity of entering into deeper and spiritual experiences.

The aim of this 2 days intensive session is to help the teachers to grasp this essential nature of the Pranayama.

Contents of the 2 Day Training:

1. Yogic concepts of Body functions in context of Pranayama (Panchkosha, Prana, Nadi, Chakra, Kundalini etc.)
2. Evolution and History of Pranayama
3. Practical Aspects: Components, Consideration of Matra, Desha and Kala
4. Technical Consideration of Practical aspect of Pranayama (Correct posture, technique or Puraka,     Kumbhaka,   Rechaka)
5. Pre-requisites of Pranayama Sadhana & Practical hints for daily practice
6. Introduction and practice of three important Pranayama

Yoga teachers welcome.
All level practitioners welcome
